Description
These recordings, made by Peter Hoover in the early sixties, showcase the performances of three western North Carolina fiddlers whose repertoires included archaic tunes like “Lady Hamilton” and “Snowbird.” It’s interesting to see how those old tunes come out in the context of their other pieces and to hear the respect these comparatively modern musicians gave to this older, more stately fiddling tradition.
Byard Ray, fiddle; Peter Hoover, banjo: tracks 1-6. Manco Sneed, fiddle: tracks 7-18. Mike Rogers, fiddle; Ed Orr, finger style banjo; Peter Hoover, guitar: tracks 19-36.
